The One-Third Rule – How to Give to Charity Without
Cheating Your Heirs
“Beta ji, charity is beautiful. But not when you take from one child’s share to give to a masjid. That’s not sadaqah, that’s zulm.
Islam gave you one-third of your estate to play with. One-third only. That’s your Wasiyyah — your freedom slice. The other two-thirds? Locked in for heirs.
What You Can Do
- Dedicate up to one-third to charity, sadaqah jariyah, or non-heirs.
- Support a friend, neighbour, or cause close to your heart.
- Invest in the Hereafter without stealing from your children.
What You Can’t Do
- Leave the whole estate to the mosque.
- Give extra to your favourite child.
- Ignore the heirs Allah already appointed.
Uncle’s Final Word
Generosity is sunnah, injustice is haram. Use your one-third wisely, and leave the rest exactly as Allah commanded.
